Protecting children at risk of HIV infection (Malawi)

Ishmael Mdoka is a Police Child Protection Officer on the front line of the fight against AIDS. He's identified 14 year-old Agnes being exploited for sex in a small room in the back of a bar. A national child protection program trains police officers in child protection so they recognize child labor and refer cases to social services. Training is supported by the Global Fund through the National AIDS Commission.
Bursaries also supported by the Global Fund enable vulnerable children to remain in school. It helps them stay out of trouble and prevents them from engaging in risky behavior that could lead to them contracting HIV.
